Notes: If this coat could talk, it'd tell you some crazy stories. This coat was made to NATO regulations in the wintery december of 1961 in a little German town. This coat is a pea coat, most likely worn by a marine or naval officer. It's been around, but the state of this coat is near perfect.
This coat's original buttons have been replaced by Tunisian coins from 1908. The person who this coat belonged to most likely was posted there for training the Tunisian army or for a diplomatic mission. These buttons are not regulation, so he either got in trouble, had special status or sowed these on later when he wasn't in the navy anymore or when he had a different coat. Or.... It was military surplus and some bloke went to Tunisia and decided the coins were better buttons than the orginal ones.. I hope it's the former, not the latter.
And yes, this was a lot of fun for us to find out!
Wear and tear: This coat is 64 years old. It's hardly got any problems or damage. Only some slight deterioration of the wool in the inside at the neck. Nothing major. Is included in the price.
